Those Five Rings

I adore the Olympics. I think it is a wonderful show of sportsmanship and competitive edge.I also love cheering for my country and hoping they do their best and to cheer for the underdogs that have never won and seeing history take place. I love gymnastics, speed skating, ice skating, bob sledding, swimming, synchronized swimming, anything with horses (which is never on tv!), the one where you ski and shoot, diving, archery and so many more that I can't remember. I think that they are a fabulous way of looking back and thinking what was happening four years ago in your life or two if you like to think of the Olympics as every two years and it doesn't matter if it is winter or summer, which I do.

Four years ago I was getting ready to go to my freshman year of college and was super nervous! I also got to welcome my sweet niece Annika into the world whose due date was the day of the opening ceremony 8-8-8 but was early, silly girl missing an awesome birthday! I'm glad that I've made it through college and had nothing to be nervous about.  Two years ago I was "talking to" (my mom HATES that term) a super wonderful man who is now my fiancĂ©. I remember watching the winter Olympics with Tyler and using that as an excuse to hang out with him and get to know him better and I'm so glad I did.

On my own little sportiness, I earned my regular dog day's shirt and will earn my Saturday dog day's shirt in the morning!  This past week I was in Bartlesville, where I got to see Tyler play 14 straight innings of baseball, such a hard worker, and participate in a Great Expectations (GE) training. GE was wonderful! I met many great people/teachers and learned so many different techniques that I can't wait to use in my own classroom! Also I would like to brag on Tyler and mention he won the male intern of the year for his site for the camp he did. I also was excited to see friends that I haven't seen all summer and be able to catch up with them.

One last thing currently I'm doing a face mask called the burning mask, which I think works really well and is fun to use because you smell like an apple pie for thirty minutes and you also look like you would scare small children which isn't as fun.

Proof  I look scary
Confession time, I am watching the opening ceremonies and they are being dvred for my mom and sisters and I have probably rewinded it 25,930,093 times so I could hear every little thing they say and not miss anything. Also I have now had this mask on for 50 minutes and I'm only suppose to have it on for 30. Whoops.

Win me a medal folks!
Ps.My dear friend Emily started Med School last week and got her white coat today! I'm so stinking proud of her! :)

Where do I start?

Since I lasted posted I have gone to two all-stars games, a total of four baseball games plus a celebrity softball game (including the all-star games), got ENGAGED and spent a wonderful week with my new fiancé and signed my teaching contract.

The weekend after my last post Tyler called me and came up unexpectedly and so I surprised him with tickets to a Royals game which he loved because he had never been to a Royals game. We saw the Royals play the Cardinals and of course they lost. Before the game they had a special celebrity softball game in the Little K which was fun and crazy, it was the most ridiculous game I've ever seen.

The next week I went to Oklahoma and spent the weekend with Tyler and we went to Texas League All Star game at the Tulsa Drillers stadium and got to see their Home Run Derby before the game for free and Tyler caught two of the balls! One for me and one for him. I saw him catch the second one and it was an awesome sight. The game was a lot of fun and it is cool to see players at double A level knowing one day they may be in the pros. The other highlight of the weekend as seeing my friend, Ivy, and spending 12 hours with her after not seeing her since graduation!

The next time I saw Tyler was when he came up for the Fourth of July, two days after I got back from Oklahoma. We spent time with my mom, the L's(Laura and Lynne), Sarah, and Tori on the 4th and had a lot of fun and enjoyed the fireworks. On Thursday we ran errands, Tyler played video games with my nephew, Ben, and I made dinner. He also got a call from his parents informing us that his dad got us tickets to the MLB All Star game in KC. Then on Friday we were supposed to go to Kauffman stadium, where the Royals play, for a tour with my family, but they had to cancel because MLB took over the stadium for the All-Star game.  So, we played catch in my backyard instead.

That's when the magic began. We were playing catch in my backyard and my mom and sisters were watching and taking pictures of us in our new matching American league jerseys that Tyler bought for us as a surprise. Or so I thought, sneaky people. He asked me if I could pitch a perfect game and the first time I said no. A little later he asked me again and I said I'll try and then he told me it was bottom of the 9th, there are two outs and I had 7 pitches to get this guy out and win. I threw a couple balls and he gave me a couple strikes and then I threw a strike and he came over to congratulate me and told me that when you play in your backyard, you always throw a perfect game. He asked me if I got the game ball and I said yes and he started to put the one we used in my glove and then started to pull something out of his pocket. I said what are you doing! Then he got down on one knee and I was looking at the ring and not him and I said "I like you!" Then he told me that he was up here (he wanted me to look at him and not the ring) and said that he loved me and would I marry him? And I said yes!

That night we went to the Legends with my mom and the L's and then went to a T-bones game which was a lot of fun. Saturday, we got up and went to Dog Day's Saturday Fun Run with Laura and Lynne and then came back and got ready to go to Fanfest because I could get in free since I was working it later that day and I had a free ticket he could use. I went to work the fielding practice and I met someone that knew my Uncle Byron who died a five years ago, so that was really cool. Tyler's parents and nephew drove up to give us the tickets to the game and they hung out with Tyler and I joined them after I got done and we continued to enjoy Fanfest and then they went back to Oklahoma.

On Sunday we went to church and then to lunch with Jessica and her boys who adore Tyler, and I worked at Fanfest again. Monday, we went to Fanfest again because we had so much fun and after Fanfest we went to a free Little Big Town concert a few blocks away and of course they played the two songs I wanted to hear last. Tuesday, we went to the All-Star parade at the Plaza, where I got sunburned, and then we went to Kauffman to enjoy the game. It was the opportunity of a lifetime! I only wish that the American league would have scored! I wanted to see an extra inning game! Wednesday morning I went to fill out paperwork for the school district, sign my contract and get my badge! That afternoon I spent time with Tyler before he headed back to Oklahoma.

This past week has been full of memories that I will always cherish and I am so glad I get to marry the love of my life and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him. I am really excited that he asked me to be his wife. I am so happy that I got to share this experience with all of you.

Run, run, run as fast as you can!

So lately I have been going to Dog Day's this summer, which is a local community workout project run by a man called Red Dog, they have it twice a day at 6:00am and 6:00pm MTWR and it is intense. Marines will come and say it is a challenge. I've been going at least four times a week and going to the Saturday Fun Run. You have to go 20 times to get a shirt and I've gone 11 times, 12 after tonight. we had to do a timed mile yesterday and I did it in 12;30 which was slow compared to the rest of the masses. It's been fun and I plan to still go after I hit 20 times because exercise is always good for you. Also I highly recommend drinking a glass of chocolate milk after a workout because it seriously helps with soreness. Also Red Dog's wife Beverly, has talked me and one of my friends into running a 5k at the end of the summer and run more than walk it. So that will be an interesting challenge. I also saw a facebook/ Ljworld.com that Lawrence is have a 5k Color Run this October and I would enjoy doing that because who wouldn't want to be doused in different colors? Last thing, It's really hard going to bed early enough to go work at 6 in the morning. So I am trying to learn to go to bed earlier and now love Fridays because I can sleep in.

So on that note I have to go get ready to go to Dog Day's.

Have a nice week and try finding a local community workout program!

Well Hello There!

I suck. Blogging during student teaching was way harder than I anticipated as I'm sure you came to realize as I stopped posting. Second semester I was busy with classes and tutoring and a major case of senioriitis. Now since my last blog I have successfully completed student teaching, which was a bear, gone to New York City for a week, and I loved it and dream to go back, I went to New Mexico for spring break to visit my oldest sister and her family, I GRADUATED college after four years of very hard work, and I was Magna Cum Laude, lastly after three job interviews, I accepted an 8th grade Math and Science teaching position in Lawrence.

I am super excited to start this new adventure teaching Math and Science. I really desired a Science teaching position so I am thankful that God blessed me with my heart's desire. I am also super nervous and stressed and I know the stress will only increase from here since the first year of teaching is supposed to be super hard. Well not hard, but challenging and stressful. I have loved the teachers I have met and they have all been super helpful, so I know I have a staff that will be helpful with this next year and guide me.

I dearly miss all my friends scattered across the country, that part of college really stinks, and I plan to visit the ones still at OKWU/Bartlesville. Many of them became like family to me and I miss that part of my family. I also miss my dear boyfriend, who is still in Bartlesville, but we talk/text frequently and he came to see me this past weekend and I will see him again in two weeks! I miss being able to see him everyday and spending my evenings with him though. But we cherish the time we have together on the phone and our short visits.

My room at my house is almost done! I got my very own mattress that I bought on Wednesday and it was very comfortable! Way better than any college dorm mattress I slept on. I enjoy the room way more now that I have a bed and I need to finish the rest, but I hate unpacking and finding homes for things, so we will see how that goes. Oh! I have a classroom I need to decorate too! I need lovely posters with Math and Science concepts to aid students learning and then things that are cute! The classroom is blue and green and I love it! It's on the third floor and has wonderful large windows that show mostly sky. I can't wait to finish it all up!

Well, I'm tired. Hopefully I get better at this business as time goes on, no promises.
Also I want to change the name of the blog, mostly get rid of the student teaching part, so any suggestions would be lovely.

Faith, Love and Pixie Dust!

This is Far From The End.

I forgot to blog/have been to busy. But I'm not as bad as I thought I was. Student teaching is still wonderful! I'm learning all sorts of new things like how we can't cookie cutter kids and give them all the same discipline. That just doesn't work. I'm also learning how to balance everything I have to do, I'm not very good at it but I'm getting there. I kinda like figuring out how to teach each subject as I get new ones but it also creates the fear that I'll do it wrong. I'm not the type person who says I'll do anything once, at least school homework related, I hate getting new assignments that I've never done because I'm afraid I'll do them wrong, which means they don't get done quickly. But after that first one I'm good to go and ace them.

Last night OKWU had a 80's themed roller skate night, I wasn't sure I was going to go because I was tired and it started at 11:15pm and was in Tulsa. So 20 minutes before my friends were going to leave I decided I was going and put together a rocking 80's outfit did my make up and teased my hair. Let me tell you I looked GOOD. But all my pictures are on my iPhone, they will probably find their way to facebook. Also, I was really surprised that I was really the only 80's rocker chick, everyone else boy and girl a like was 80's workout.

Well I need to go to the cafe before it closes and then come clean my room, make lesson plans, go to volleyball, than baseball and then work. Oh my seems like a busy day.

Last thought I have a hammock on my deck and I really wanna sleep one night in it, but it keeps not working out. Now it's getting colder and unless I wanna Eskimo it up, I  might have to wait till spring. sad day.

Week 1 of Student Teaching

Well I'm been in my classroom for a whole week! Half of the week was meetings and setting up the room and the other half was with the students. This week while we were setting up our room I realized I had never been to an elementary first day of school! I had no idea what to expect at all. In my little fantasy I imagined you did some get to know you stuff but got right into the whole teaching thing. Nope lots and lots of get to know each other and the school stuff. It's all very fun and interesting to see theses days and not quite worry about actually teaching yet. But I have seen lots of great ideas that I can use in my own classroom one day. I love my teacher! She is fabulous and so helpfully. I'm her first student teacher so she is more worried about not showing me everything I need to see and learn than me doing poorly. All of the other teachers I have met have been wonderful too and I can learn something different from each of them. So far I like all of my students some have interesting quirks and some will definitely be a challenge. But I'm up for the challenge! After being in student teaching all day three days this week I  worked in the bookstore for a little while, but that was only for this week. I would also go and work in the coffee shop on campus which I am doing all year and I also really enjoy. I totally feel the whole go go go thing going on, but I still have down time and get to see Tyler and all my dear friends. Tonight I went to a Driller game in Tulsa with Tyler and our friends Brittany and Arynn. We had a lot of fun at the game and the Drillers won! Then we came back to school and watched Hercules. It was a great end to a wonderful week and I'm ready for the next to begin.

Time for me to dream!

A Hair Raising Experience

On Saturday I was creeping on facebook and one of my friend had done this new hair technique for curling your hair without heat. Well I love curly hair but hate curling it/don't know how to use a curling iron. I keep trying, but it never works. When I saw her picture and watched the video of how to do hair I knew I had to try it! These are my results!

After I rolled my hair into the headband. It wasn't hard, but I kept playing with the rolls. This headband did not hurt my head, but it was Lynne's, so I need my own.

I don't know why these two merged together, but the first one is right after i took the headband out and the second is after I combed it. I'm happy with it! not everywhere was as awesome as the front but I just got to keep trying!

I tried it again last night with not freshly washed hair and this is what happened! I still need to get better at the rolling but this is something that I will do lots cause it's easy! I'm always afraid I'll brush out the curls though and then I'll be sad. The headband I used last night was way too tight! I kept pulling on it all night and the red mark from that one is way more visible and took longer to go away then the one I borrowed from Lynne. On both attempts the curl has lasted, better the second ( but I used hairspray) but still hasn't stayed super awesome. I blame the fact that it is a 110 outside and feels like 113.

Can it rain please?
Xoxo
